Casement windows, also known as right, left, hopper, or awning swing windows can be the most efficient of window types since it’s easy to seal them like a refrigerator door. They also open 100% for better ventilation, unlike hung windows that only open 50%. Casements are predominant in European style architecture like Tudor and seldom found on classic Victorian variations. Casement sash themselves are almost identical to their brothers in double hung windows. Casements use the same stile dimensions as double-hungs. Their bottom and top rails are typically the same as those on a double-hung as well. As with all our sash, the profiles are historic ogee design with deep shadow lines in and out. There have only been a handful of predominant sash molding profiles from 1865 on. The most common profile and our standard is the “Roman Ogee”, while other profiles are available.

We maintain historical aesthetics by setting glass 7/8″ deep into the sash from the interior to create a shadow line that helps provide character. Most modern manufacturers ignore this crucial detail.
