We had all nineteen windows in our 1925 Craftsman-type house replaced with with windows from Heirloom Windows. We looked at all of the major window manufacturers and none of them could give us windows that looked like our original windows. I was unwilling to install vinyl windows, which have thick double-paned glass and do not look like the original single pane windows with their distinctive mullions.
Plus, the vinyl windows I have seen installed in homes like ours are often sized smaller than the originals, reducing the amount of light and changing the existing sight lines. We love our home because it is flooded with natural light. We never need to turn on a light during the day.
Before we agreed to go forward, we looked at the sample of Spacia glass and considered whether the dots would be distracting to us. We decided that we had no other choice as far as finding a window that would match the originals, so we went ahead with the project. Neither my wife or I see the dots when we look out the windows. This is because our eyes are focused on the outside world. The dots simply disappear. If I stand with my face six inches from the window, and concentrate on the dots, I can see them, but they are so small as to be inconsequential.
With the new windows installed, our home is so much more comfortable in the winter than it was when we had single paned windows. The difference is striking.
